I started with and mained an Elementalist like forever, it's just more fun for some people to start and stick with a complex class I guess, I'm a weirdo that way. #2. Classes suggested for beginners, would probably be Warrior, Guardian, Ranger, and Necromancer. Elementalist or Theif could also be a good choice, but play a little different than usual. Mesmer, Engineer, or Revenant, are probably the most complex classes. Race unfortunately will not affect much more than personal story. Don't stress about gear you'll get a lot along the way. Weapons change your 1-5 skills, Healing is 6, 7-9 is Utility and 10 is Elite.
